About Study-a-thons

WHAT ARE THEY?

GIFT, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, conducts ongoing Study-a-thons in which students raise funds while studying. Proceeds from the Study-a-thons are used to help students in need with their college prep. It’s a great way for students to help themselves academically while raising money for students who cannot afford college-readiness programs or the materials necessary for college acceptance.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

As part of the Study-a-thon, you will create a personal donation page with a description of your interests and your reasons for participating in the Study-a-thon. On this donation page, sponsors will support your Study-a-thon with donations.   At this time we have PSAT, SAT and READ-a-thons.  

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO FOR A PSAT, SAT OR ACT STUDY- A-THON?

As a participant in an SAT or ACT Study-a-thon, you pledge to:

  • Watch a test prep video
  • Complete 4 test prep worksheets
  • Read a chapter from Write the SAT Essay Right (chapter provided) and write an SAT or ACT essay.  Book contains ACT essay information, too.
  • Take a full SAT  or ACT exam
  • All components can be found on the student homepage

WHAT IS A READ- A-THON?

Students in a Read-a thon pledge to read three books and write a short summary of each book.

HOW LONG DO STUDY-A-THONS LAST?

A Study-a-thon should be completed in a 4 week period. Students receive a Community Service certificate upon completion.

CAN I PARTICIPATE IN AN SAT or ACT STUDY-A-THON IF I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN OR ENROLLED IN A PREP CLASS?

Definitely! These Study-a-thons are a great way of practicing what you are learning in your class. Even better: tell your tutor about the Study-a-thon and get all your classmates involved!

WHAT IF, BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL REASONS, I CAN’T RAISE MONEY?

There is an Adopt-a-student program. For an application, email devin@graphitforward.org.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Go to our website (www.graphitforward.org) and click the Study-a-thon button on the home page. Then click the  join a Study-a-thon scroll down tab.
